Sumitomo Propylene Oxide
by Cumene (POC) Process
4 licenses awarded, including:
Outride the Waves of Fluctuating Market
By converting your propylene to propylene oxide (“PO”) with Sumitomo POC process, you can be assured to establish the most robust, stable and efficient PO chain out of all the PO production processes available. With a small amount of cumene that is recycled around the process, you can maximize the value of your propylene in the most prudent way.
The ingenious technology that we had reserved and restricted mainly for internal use within our group companies is now available for license in response to a growing number of requests.
The two major applications of PO are propylene glycols, often used in hygiene products, cosmetics and de-icers; and polyols, raw material for polyurethanes.
You have a variety of options to enter into PO chain – you can either trade PO itself, or convert it into downstream derivatives.
Either way, Sumitomo POC process ensures you a smooth market entry, even if you are new to PO production
How?
Pioneering Novel PO Production:
Co-product Free,
Minimum Waste,
Excellent Operability
- Generations of PO Processes
-
- Become a leading PO player with Sumitomo POC Process, the forerunner of the new generation technology.
-
PO processes are often categorized by their generations. New, third generation technology, PO-only process with significantly lower environmental impact than the conventional process, was highly sought after for years.
While successfully pioneering such new generation technology, we have also managed to streamline and optimize the process to realize excellent operability such that all our licensees have succeeded in smooth start-up and stable operation of their plant to date.Sumitomo POC Process is exceptionally unique in that
- the environmental impact is significantly reduced compared to 1st generation PO-only process;
- the impact of the market fluctuation is kept minimal due to it being co-product free;
- simple and stable process assures reliable operation and minimized loss;
- recycled feedstock means low dependence on feedstock availability, allowing greater flexibility in site selection and production adjustment.
The “Three Elements of Trust”
in Sumitomo POC Process
-
Operational Excellence
- Your Competitive Edge:
- Minimize your OPEX by minimizing operational loss.
- ALL licensed plants achieving smooth start-up
- 100% success rate of performance guarantee test in the first trial at ALL licensed plants;
- Zero occurrence of major incident throughout its years of operation, all licensed plants achieving stable operation to date
- Co-Product free means that influence by market conditions is minimized
-
Top Quality Product
- An Assurance You can Trust:
- Utilize the PO produced to any applications know in the market – i.e. propylene glycols, polyols, glycol ethers, etc.
- Stable production of 99.9%, high quality propylene oxide
- Proven and trusted quality meeting customer requirements since 2003
-
Sustainability
- Your Long-Term Benefits:
- Get one step closer in achieving your SDGs
Significantly reduce your OPEX
- Absence of coproduct, produced by twice as much as PO in other processes, means reduced environmental load.
- Cumene is recycled around the process, minimizing the use of fresh feedstock
- Significant reductions in wastewater compared to first generation technology
- Competitive energy efficiency.
POC uses cumene itself as the process solvent. Cumene requires only about a third energy input to evaporate compared to methanol, a solvent often used in HPPO process, contributing to superior energy efficiency of Sumitomo POC process.
Global Trust and Recognitions
Since the first commercialization of this process in 2003 at our own plant in Japan, we have been supplying our clients with a stable supply of high-quality PO. The process has won various awards for its innovation and remarkable contribution to the environment.
In addition to a license granted to our group company in Saudi Arabia in 2006, 3 licenses have been granted to the leading multinational companies since 2014 when we started to proactively license our array of state-of-the-art technologies.
