What is a Relay?
As the name suggests, a relay is a mechanism for relaying electricity. They are broadly divided into contact relays (mechanical relays) and non-contact relays (MOS FET relays, solid-state relays), and SUMIKASUPER LCP is mainly used in mechanical relays. Mechanical relays consist of a coil (electromagnet) and a switch (contacts). Inputting current into the coil generates a magnetic force (electromagnet), which turns the switch on and off. Relays are used in a very wide range of applications, from large machines such as automobiles and industrial robots to small machines familiar in daily life such as office equipment and home appliances.
Required material properties
Typical characteristics required for relays are high heat resistance (rigidity and strength at high temperatures, reflow resistance), low outgassing, low dust generation, and high dielectric strength. SUMIKASUPER LCP meets these characteristics, and the optimum grade can be selected to match the heat resistance required for relays and the thin-wall flow required during molding.
Grade Selection Guide for Relay Applications
Among SUMIKASUPER LCP, the grades suitable for relays with the required characteristics mentioned above are as follows. The high heat resistant grade E6008 and the ultra-high heat resistant grade E4008 are the most suitable grades for relays. If higher heat resistance is required, E5008 is recommended. Also, for relays that require thin wall and high fluidity, E6807LHF and others are recommended.
